Smithsonian Networks (SNI/SI) is a joint venture between Showtime Networks Inc. and the Smithsonian Institution. Based largely upon the assets of the Smithsonian Institution, the world’s largest museum complex, Smithsonian Networks has been formed to create new platforms to showcase scientific, cultural and historical programming. |

The content is inspired by the Smithsonian Institution’s rich portfolio of sources – museums, research facilities and magazines – and will feature original programming that covers an array of information, thus ensuring appeal to a wide audience. Smithsonian Channel will feature original documentaries, short-subject explorations and innovative and groundbreaking programs that call on these intriguing tales of America’s past, present and future.
The programming of Smithsonian Channel will cover a wide range subjects including: Air and Space, Pop Culture, History and Mystery, Smithsonian Kids™, Natural Wonders and More Smithsonian™.

Initially there will be three ways to view Smithsonian Channel:
Smithsonian Channel HD – A linear programming service consisting of approximately 100 hours of original, family-friendly, commercial-free programming transmitted in high definition and Dolby Digital 5.1.
Smithsonian Channel – An On Demand service with 20-25 hours of programs, a percentage of which will be refreshed monthly. Content is available in both high definition and standard definition.
SmithsonianChannel.com – A robust broadband site with streaming video featuring clips from programs and series as well as original broadband-only productions. The site will soon launch a social-networking community, an interactive game based on the collection at the National Museum of American History, and other features related to specific Smithsonian content.
